동대문구 곳곳을 비추는 200만 화소의 CCTV들은 구청사 7층에 위치한 ‘CCTV 통합관제센터’ 직원들의 눈이 되어 24시간 구민의 안전을 책임진다.
스마트 미래 도시로의 도약을 준비 중인 구는 ‘더 안전한 일상’을 위해 방범용 CCTV의 기능을 강화, 지난해 11월부터 ‘AI CCTV 기반 실종자 고속 검색 시스템’(이하 고속 검색 시스템)을 운영하고 있다.
‘고속 검색 시스템’에 찾고자 하는 대상의 사진, 인상착의 등 정보를 입력하면 AI가 자동으로 녹화된 자료를 확인해 신속하게 일치하는 영상을 찾을 수 있어 실종자, 범죄 용의자 확인에 큰 도움이 되고 있다.
실제 지난 2월 15일, 치매노인 실종과 관련해 동대문경찰서로부터 CCTV 영상 확인을 요청받은 구는 ‘고속 검색 시스템’에 실종자 인상착의를 등록 후 이동경로를 분석, ‘실시간 인물 찾기 기능’을 사용해 인근 CCTV 영상에서 치매노인을 발견해 즉시 경찰에 알림으로써 치매노인을 무사히 가족 품으로 돌려보낼 수 있었다.
이필형 동대문구청장은 “방범용 CCTV의 확대와 함께 지능형 CCTV의 도입도 적극 추진하여 구민들이 안심하고 생활할 수 있는 사람 중심의 스마트 도시로 만들어 갈 것.”이라고 말했다.

The 2-megapixel CCTVs that illuminate various areas of Dongdaemun-gu serve as the eyes of employees at the ‘CCTV Integrated Control Center’ located on the 7th floor of the district office building and are responsible for the safety of citizens 24 hours a day.
The district, which is preparing to take a leap forward as a smart future city, has strengthened the functions of crime prevention CCTV for a ‘safer daily life’ and has been operating the ‘AI CCTV-based missing person high-speed search system’ (hereinafter referred to as the high-speed search system) since November of last year.
As soon as entering the information such as a photo or attributes of the target you are looking for into the ‘high-speed search system,’ AI automatically checks the recorded data and can quickly find a matching video, which is greatly helpful in identifying missing people and crime suspects.
In fact, on February 15th, the district, which received a request from Dongdaemun Police Station to check CCTV footage in relation to the disappearance of an elderly person with dementia, registered the missing person's impression in the 'high-speed search system', analyzed the movement path, and used the 'real-time person search function' to search for nearby CCTV footage. By discovering an elderly person with dementia and immediately notifying the police, they were able to safely return the elderly person with dementia to his family.
Pil-hyung Lee, head of Dongdaemun-gu District, said, “In addition to expanding CCTV for crime prevention, we will also actively promote the introduction of intelligent CCTV to create a people-centered smart city where residents can live with peace of mind.”
